Have you ever created a mood board? If you’re new to the concept, a mood board is a collage of objects, colors, materials – and pretty much anything else you want to add – composed in an organized presentation around a central theme or concept. Often used by creative artists and designers, they’re a great way to inspire creativity and tell a story around designs, projects and products.
At Le Creuset, we have used mood boards to celebrate some of our recent color launches, and have partnered with mood board expert Robin Verrier, Founder of Verry Robin & Co., to help us bring our color stories to life in this fun and visually dynamic way. We hosted a conversation with Robin and Domino magazine’s Style Director Benjamin Reynaert on our IGTV channel about mood boarding in honor of our spring 2021 color launch. Robin shares some of her tips for engaging your creative eye to bring the power of mood boards to your own home and projects.
Be sure to watch the full conversation on IGTV and share your mood boards with us on Instagram with the tag #CasuallyColorful. We would love to see what inspires you.

Mood Boarding Tips
Q: What kinds of things can you use on a mood board?
A: “The beauty of mood boarding is that you can really use anything and everything to make it come to life. I always say, the more the merrier, and I usually put in postcards, antique books, notes, ribbons or shells. You can repurpose the objects and give it some power on a mood board, and look at them differently.”
Q: What tips do you have for creating mood boards for our own projects and at home?
A: “The tips that I can offer when creating a consistent color palette and vision no matter what project you’re working on would be to make sure that your Color, Contrast and Composition are correct. It really balances the mood board, brings it to life and turns it into something really powerful at the end.”
Q: How do you set goals around creating mood boards? What makes a mood board successful?
A: “We can do inspirational mood boards just for fun, or a mood board to help plan for a project. I think mood boards all have different missions, and they can be for different things. I always think a good place to start is to pick a single color or single theme and to start there and then build off of that, it makes it easier to get your props together.”
"Mood boarding is an art and a way to tell a story."

Mood Boards for Creative Inspiration
Q: How does mood boarding aid in creativity?
A: “Mood boarding aids in project planning and creativity because you’re kind of able to take all these little bits that are floating around in your brain and putting them in one space where you can see everything together, and make sure that it gels and that the aesthetics work and that the colors mesh. It’s just such a helpful way to make sure you’re on the right track.”
Q: What have you enjoyed about using Le Creuset products in your mood boards?
“Working with pots and pans was a new medium for me. The really cool thing about these color launches, is that these colors have so much personality and so many inspirations behind them. Color is so powerful and can move you, and so it was really cool to do the Le Creuset color launches because I could bring out all the inspirations that are behind these colors. Like what does this color make you feel and what does it evoke for you. I also like that Le Creuset products are easily incorporated into your life and into your kitchen and it’s customizable. And it’s just really fun!”
Q: What is your favorite thing about mood boarding?
A: “Mood boarding is an art and a way to tell a story. It allows us to collect our thoughts, streamline our vision and help bring our stories to life. I love helping brands celebrate in this fun way.”
