A Design Icon: About Sheila Bridges
With deep roots in Harlem, creative visionary and tastemaker Sheila Bridges is widely recognized as one of the world’s top interior designers. Her timeless, colorful and narrative-rich interiors for clients that include former president Bill Clinton, Princeton University and Vice President Kamala Harris have earned her wide acclaim.
Bridges’ aesthetic is classic yet versatile, informed by architecture and historical references. In fact, her thoughtful exploration of the past and interest in the decorative arts inspired the creation of her iconic Harlem Toile de Jouy pattern. “I love the French toiles, but when I was decorating my own home, I couldn’t find one that spoke to me personally,” explains Bridges.
In response, Bridges created her own toile in 2006: a powerful reimagination of traditional French toile that centers exuberant vignettes of everyday Black life in the pastoral motifs of typical late 1700s toiles. Initially, Bridges used Harlem Toile in her own home and in the homes of a few residential clients, but it didn’t take long for the pattern to be widely embraced. Today, it has graced wallcoverings, fabrics, bedding, clothing, skateboards, umbrellas and more. Considered a piece of design history, Harlem Toile de Jouy has been featured in museums that include the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, the Musée de la Toile de Jouy in France and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.

A Toile You’ll Treasure: About the Collection
Toile de Jouy, which translates to “cloth from Jouy,” is a patterned fabric from France that was typically printed with romantic pastoral scenes. Used on wallpaper, upholstery, drapery and more, toile has held a place in homes for centuries.
The Le Creuset x Sheila Bridges Collection brought the powerful joy of Harlem Toile de Jouy—a fresh take on traditional toile—right to the heart of the home, the table.
The limited-edition collection included Le Creuset’s Harlem Toile de Jouy Signature Round Dutch Oven, four different Harlem Toile de Jouy Mugs with a unique vignette on each and the Harlem Toile de Jouy Pitcher. Crafted with the same quality and design that has distinguished Le Creuset cookware for nearly a century, these special pieces from the Le Creuset x Sheila Bridges Collection are bound to become heirlooms, handed down to the next generation.
