Why Choose a Rice Pot
If you regularly cook grains in your kitchen, you will find yourself reaching for the Le Creuset Rice Pot almost daily. It’s easy to use with almost foolproof results. The superior design and versatility of this pot will make it a house favorite, not only for grains but for a variety of recipes.
Superior Design
Our Rice Pot was designed with the ideal shape, size and features to produce a perfectly cooked pot of rice every time. Tall curved sides promote convection and moisture circulation, while the consistent heat from the enameled cast iron construction means there is uniform moisture distribution to fluff each and every grain.
A key feature is the custom stoneware inner lid, which prevents the foamy boil-over that can occur when cooking grains in a regular pot. Combined with the fitted cast iron lid, excess evaporation is reduced to produce perfectly cooked food. The 2 1/4 qt. Rice Pot can produce up to 8 cups of cooked rice but it also perfectly produces as little as one single cup, making it right at home in any kitchen.
The tall sides and rounded, curved bottom provide a deep body that is ideal for cooking not just rice but other grains as well. The Le Creuset Rice Pot is ideal for white or brown rice, as well as other grains such as farro, quinoa and barley. No matter what you are cooking, though, the satin black enameled cast-iron interior is virtually non-stick to make clean-up a breeze.

"This mighty pot is ideal for all types of rice and grains."
Versatility
The Le Creuset Rice Pot is also well-suited to many other recipes, from steaming mussels to baking bread. The deep sides and enameled cast iron construction make it the ideal vessel for activities that require consistent heat, such as frying. The pot is oven-safe as well: you can bake in the pot, keep dishes warm and even reheat leftovers. Here are some of our other favorite uses:
- Bake bread – The oven-safe Rice Pot creates an optimal environment for bread baking. The high sides make it ideal for baking small loaves with a crispy crust and tender crumb.
- Fry small items - The deep shape makes it the ideal vessel for deep frying in small batches at home. The cast iron evenly retains the heat from the oil, resulting in a crispy, golden crust.
- Soups and stews - Holding up to 8 cups of liquid, our Rice Pot can be used to prepare and keep warm a wide variety of soups and stews. The high sides and deep interior make it particularly well suited for pureeing soups using an immersion blender.
- Steam mussels – Steam mussels quickly and efficiently using the stoneware insert. Serve them directly in the colorful pot to keep them hot while eating.
- Breakfast oats – The Rice Pot is well suited to cooking both old-fashioned rolled oats and longer cooking steel-cut oats. The even heat distribution allows slow and low cooking with no burnt grains on the bottom.
- Rice and grain pilafs – Simply sauté your aromatics directly in the pot before adding the rice and your choice of liquid. With a tall profile, it doesn’t take up as much space on the stove, leaving plenty of room for your other dishes.

Cooking Grains: Tips from our Kitchen
Because each grain is different, there is no one-size-fits-all liquid to grain ratio for cooking at home. It is also important to remember that you can’t always simply scale up the recipe. Due to evaporation rates, the amount of liquid needed does not necessarily double just because the amount of grain increases. So for the best results, be sure to follow the package directions.
While the exact liquid-to-grain ratio and cooking time will vary based on what you are cooking, there is a standard method to using the Le Creuset Rice Pot that will yield perfectly cooked grains every time:
- Bring water, stock or other cooking liquid to a boil.
- Add grains with a large pinch of salt and stir to combine.
- Reduce heat to low, cover with the inner lid and the outer lid.
- Simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed and grain is al dente.
- Turn off heat and let stand 5-10 minutes.
- For some grains, such as farro and barley, you may need to drain off excess liquid.
