Dutch Oven Round Product - Features and Benefits

      ENAMELED CAST IRON

Since 1925, Le Creuset cast iron has been recognized for its strength and durability. Cast individually in sand molds, then hand-inspected by French artisans, each piece represents a rich heritage and continues a tradition of lasting, authentic design.

      Heat Retention

Cast iron distributes heat slowly and evenly over the entire vessel, making it ideal for all forms of cooking, whether slow-cooking, roasting, searing, stir-frying or baking.

      Smooth Interior Enamel

The glass-like finish in our ovens and braisers promotes caramelization, resists staining and prevents sticking to make cleanup easy.

      Black Interior Enamel

The black interior of our skillets is specially formulated for high-temperature cooking, and does not require seasoning.

This is a great piece of cookware for any kitchen - I use it almost as much as my 3.5 quart braiser. It heats up quickly, stays hot, it's easy to clean, durable (that does make it pretty heavy, so not for weenies), and it's so nice to look at. I already love to cook, but when the cookware is so pretty it takes it to a new level for me. I typically cook for myself and my husband, and double recipes so we have leftovers for a day or two. The 5.5 quart size has been perfect for that - it can handle between 4-6 servings, depending on your appetite and recipe.

I wanted this pot for a specific recipe requiring a long bake time at 450-500 degrees. The website says that the 5 1/2 quart dutch oven is heat resistant to 500 degrees, so I purchased the product. Upon getting ready to make my recipe, I reviewed the instruction booklet. It says the handle is resistant to 250 degrees. I called the company and was told by the customer service rep who answered the phone that, while it can be resistant, they do not recommend cooking at 500 degrees and if I do, the pot needs to be heated up gradually, not just put into a 500 degree oven. She again reiterated that it is not recommended that the pot be used at that temperature. I am not sure why the website claims 500 degrees uses when this is clearly not true.

Comments about Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven:

I received my 5½ quart Caribbean dutch oven for Christmas and I absolutely love it! You can make almost anything in it. I've made pastas, curries, stews, soups, and other "one pot" meals. It easily goes from the stove to the oven and vice versa. It heats up evenly and retains heat beautifully, though if your stove top isn't the most powerful it may take a few minutes to come to temperature (mine is 15+ years old and takes a good 5 minutes at least). The lid also fits security. It's very easy to clean. I did see light brown spots on the bottom of the oven after cooking one particular meal, but the spots have come off with white vinegar (I add enough vinegar to coat the bottom and left it for an hour and the spots came right off when I rubbed them with a paper towel). I don't mind the weight of the oven. It's my new favorite tool in the kitchen, and I use it every chance I get!

I have a family of four. I love to cook but don't have the time to cook every day. I use this pot frequently to make double-batches of my favorite soups and stews that we can reheat later. Or when we have company over it's the perfect size. I LOVE this French oven and I'm sure I will use it for many years to come. Expensive investment purchase but worth every penny!

Let me start by saying I've been a cast iron snob for 30+ years so, my sweet wife bought this for me for Father's Day and it has become just about the only cookware I will use other than omelet pans for eggs and large pots for pasta.

I absolutely love this dutch oven and I hope I can collect more of the Le Creuset in the near future.

Cast aside any fears you may have, it is WELL WORTH THE COST, and will deliver a LIFETIME of service to you!

Comments about Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven:

I bought this in Miami and brought it in the plane with me (no issues at customs at all!) as they are not sold in Argentina.

I suggest this is good for a small kitchen because you can do anything with it. I store it in the oven or oven top, so I do not use cabinet space for it and it also beautifies my kitchen!

As you can use it on oventop and oven, it can be used for almost anything. I mostly cook meats and vegetables in it, which is the base of any Argentine meal!!! I cook up to 6 big chicken breasts in about 30 minutes (the last 5 I take the lid off) on high heat. This is really useful to prepare dinner and lunch at the same time.

In the winter I have used it to make stews and even once I made a tortilla on it!

I know some complaint of its weight and it is certaintly the heaviest on my collection (my shoulder was also not happy running in the airport). However, I think that the weight adds to its charm and I will still use both hands to get anything out of the oven anyway!

I got it in Caribean color and keep getting compliments for it! Specially when I use it to take food to my friend's houses!

Comments about Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven:

When I moved to this country from France in 1977, I brought my mother's Le Creuset pot. She probably bought it in the 50's and never used anything else. I used it extensively for 30+ years after that. Sadly, I had to let it go last year, the bottom was chipped and started to cook unevenly. I almost cried!
When I moved a couple of months ago, a dear friend bought me a new one! Wow! I am happy again.
This is the most important thing in my kitchen.

Comments about Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven:

A very versatile piece of cookware to have in any kitchen. I find myself reaching for this pot more than any others, it is a reasonable size but still holds plenty of food for a family meal. I don't have issue with the weight because it retains heat well in turn keeping food warm for a surprisingly long time.

Since it easily goes from stove top to oven to table you can get a lot done without using multiple pieces of cookware. Ideal for starting dishes on the stove top and finishing them in the oven. Produces wonderful results for anything from main dishes to dessert. I have used it to make one pot meals (jambalaya, pot roast, whole roasted chicken with vegetables), soups, stews, pasta sauce, chili, gravy, side dishes (macaroni and cheese, collards, rice), and desserts (caramel sauce, pudding, and cobblers). In a pinch I used it to sear some steaks which came out nicely caramelized.

It can scratch easily if someone unfamiliar with your pot uses metal utensils in it without exercising care. Certain foods can discolor the enamel but the Le Creuset cookware cleaner does a good job of removing light stains.

A word on Le Creuset in general - their customer service is top notch. I had an issue with one of my pots and they replaced it under the warranty with no questions asked. To me they show a sincere interest in having satisfied lifetime customers. This is a good starter piece or a welcome addition to a well outfitted kitchen - you really cannot go wrong with it.
