      My mother purchased an entire set of LeCreuset shortly after we got married. This pan is still in my cupboard. It is absolutely the best roasting pan in the world. The recessed lid makes everything in the pan fork tender. I have never had a bad dish made in this pan. My children want one, but the price is a little steep for me, but hopefully soon I will be able to purchase one for them.

      Received a larger Doufeu 40 years ago as wedding gift. USed it for 35 years. The best pot for Braising meats,making Stews and Casseroles.
      We didn't realize that scrubbing the pot with SOS pads was not a good thing, so after 35 years of working overtime for a family of 4, the bottom of our best-loved pot had become pitted, and we sadly disposed of it. It had a life time guarantee and the store where it was putchased vainly tried to find a replacement. By then, the doufeu was not being sold anywhere. We replaced it with other Le Creusetware as it is the best cookware on the market. No negatives, hands down. We DO take proper care of our new pots, and will do so with our new doufeu. Thanks Le Creuet for bringing back a true gem.

      Heritage Round DoufeuIn the 1600s, cast iron Dutch ovens were designed to be placed directly onto burning wood or embers. Cooks would pile coal or embers on top of the vessel in order to surround the food with heat, creating an oven effect.

      Originally introduced in 1934 by Le Creuset, the doufeu features a recessed lid designed to hold ice rather than embers. The doufeu can be used just like any round or oval oven, but it has added performance benefits when it comes to slow cooking. As moisture begins to evaporate inside the doufeu, the cool ice-filled lid causes this moisture to condense. Specially designed dimples on the flat interior of the lid then direct the moisture back down onto the food. This self-basting effect minimizes the need to add additional water and ensures that food remains moist, nutrients are not lost and flavors intensify. Even when the ice in the lid melts, the self-basting process continues to function, as long as water in the lid remains below the boiling point.
