Frequently Asked Questions

  • General Questions

What is the advantage of buying a Le Creuset piece instead of less costly brands?

For nearly a century, Le Creuset premium cast iron cookware has been trusted in kitchens around the world for its superior performance, lasting quality and iconic design.

With a traditional sense of craftsmanship and hands-on attention to detail, the artisans at our Fresnoy le Grand foundry have kept chefs and culinary enthusiasts in mind, and their work reflects the real demands of a working kitchen. Our product lines are crafted to achieve optimal weight and heat retention properties. Le Creuset cookware is versatile, ergonomic, extremely resistant to wear and tear, and guarantees excellent cooking results.

What is the difference between cast iron and stainless steel, and why would I choose one over the other?

Cast iron is a remarkably durable material, known for its efficient and even heating. It is best for braising, baking, roasting and soups. Our tri-ply stainless steel is also durable and efficient, but these pans are best for sautèing and shallow frying. Both materials are versatile and essential parts of a well-stocked kitchen.

I am new to Le Creuset. What is the best piece to purchase to start my collection?

This depends on the type of cooking you usually do. For soups and braising meats, a cast iron Dutch Oven is probably the best choice; this is also our most popular product. For sauteèing and shallow frying, stainless steel will work best. And for baking, stoneware is a good choice. However, you will find that each product line is extremely versatile and suited to several methods of cooking.

Where can I purchase Le Creuset cookware and tools?

You can purchase Le Creuset cookware on this site - use the navigation or search bar above above to get started. Here you can browse our complete product catalog, along with product guides, so that you can feel confident in your choice when purchasing. Our products can also be found in our Signature Stores and at all of our fine retailers. Our store locator can direct you to the store locations nearest you.

Is Le Creuset cookware appropriate for most recipes? Where can I find recipes specifically for Le Creuset?

You will find that Le Creuset products are suitable for a wide range of recipes, such as soups, stocks, meats, side dishes and desserts. Some staple pieces can be used for a variety of dishes, but we offer many types of products to suit your style of cooking. LeCreuset.com has a variety of recipes that have been created specifically for our dishes - browse our collection or search for specific recipes here.

How do I know Le Creuset will not discontinue a color once I start collecting cookware in that color?

We have several basic colors that will remain available, but we like to introduce new colors from time to time to keep things exciting. Before introducing a color, we do careful market research to make sure it will be well-received by our customers. We will occasionally retire colors; however, they may be found for some time afterward on this website and in some retail stores. We also feel that other Le Creuset colors can create an appealing color combination.

What is the Le Creuset Warranty?

Cast iron, tri-ply stainless steel, forged hard-anodized and stoneware products are all covered by warranties. A copy of the warranty is included in your item’s box. Please view our warranty page for detailed information.

How do I care for my Le Creuset cookware?

To learn the proper way to care for your Le Creuset cookware, please refer to the Care and Use brochure included in your item’s box, or view our Care and Use page online.

You should take care to never drop your pot or drag it across a cooktop. Such actions may permanently damage the enamel, and are not covered by warranty.

Although much of our cookware is dishwasher-safe, in most cases we recommend washing by hand.

Remember to always use low or medium settings on direct heat sources; high heat may cause a pan to scorch.

What is the ideal temperature for cooking with Le Creuset cast iron products?

To learn the safest way to use your Le Creuset cookware, please refer to the Care and Use brochure located in your item’s box, or view our Care and Use page online.

It is best to use low or medium heat settings with Le Creuset cast iron products. This material retains heat so well that a higher setting will cause burning, sticking and discoloration. Use high heats only when boiling water or reducing the consistency of stocks or sauces.

I broke my lid. What do I do now?

Your broken piece may be covered by warranty. If it is not covered by warranty, we will replace it at a discounted price. See our warranty page for more information.

There are brown marks on the inside of my pot. How do I remove them?

For normal wear-and-tear, Le Creuset offers cast iron and stainless steel cookware cleaners. To prevent staining, use only medium or low heat settings. However, stains will occur with use, and we recommend filling a pot with one part enzyme laundry detergent and three parts water. Boil for ten minutes, let cool and discard solution. Wash the pot with regular dish detergent, rinse and dry. To restore your pot’s sheen, apply a light coat of white vinegar.

A small piece of enamel on the inside of my pot chipped away. Is it safe to use, and how do I fix it?

If the chip is on the outside of the pot, it is still safe to use. Coat the chipped spot with oil to keep moisture out. However, if the chip is on the inside, we recommend submitting a warranty claim so the piece can be evaluated. Instructions to submit a claim are available on our warranty page.
